This is a little talk of our journey into homeschooling. Many may wonder why we do it at all, but once they are around the kids for some time... they realize that we just may be doing something right! I wanted to home educate our children long before my husband thought it was a good idea. I felt so helpless about the influence in my boy's lives. I just felt the need to shelter them, they had been through so much so young in life already. (That is too much to delve into here, I described it a bit in a previous blog 'Grow old with Me') After much convincing and much prayer, Mark allowed the boys to be schooled at home. What a relief! And there has been no question about the younger children, Mark is very supportive and wouldn't have it any other way now.
I was raised in a Godly, wholesome, Christian home... yet I went to public school. I was exposed to so much sin at such a young age. I loved the learning, just not the kids behavior. I ached for true friendship and never found a real kindred spirit. High School was awful. I did enjoy several things at school, don't get me wrong.... recess, lunch, experiments, field trips, class discussions, nice teachers, electives... and the neat 'school stuff', desks and pencil trimmers, bulletin boards and science equipment. Oh, and Spirit Week! These are the things that I try to let my children enjoy in our homeschool. The pressure from peers is not in my homeschool. The taunting and teasing is not in my homeschool. The bully system is not in my homeschool. Neither is favoritism from the teacher, swearing, vulgar language, disrespect for authority, laziness, idleness, snobbishness, and most of the time neither are shoes!
But saying ALL of that, it doesn't touch on the HEART issue. The number one reason that we choose to home educate is so that we can embrace our God given responsibility to gently and lovingly lead our children in the right path. To show them Christ's love daily. To teach their precious hearts about God's Word and prayerfully guide them to the heart of Jesus. To protect their innocence as long as possible and develop an atmosphere in our home where God can truly create in them a CLEAN HEART...

Great job Hilda. I especially loved the last paragraph. A large part really is about holding on to that innocence as long as we can. Sometimes it feels like the battle is more than I can handle, but our God is so much bigger and better than anything this world has to offer. I miss you so much. I'm praying for Kayla and the baby. I loved those pictures!! Love you, Lynn.
Really enjoyed this Hilda. Finally I get to know why Lynn loves you so. The line about the shoes was priceless!
