Historic Camden

On a recent trip home from South Carolina, we stopped to visit Historic Camden. We were hoping to get a tour of the big house, but it was under construction. We did enjoy an excellent tour of the rest of the grounds. We learned a lot and are looking forward to learning more about the Revolutionary war. We had already read a biography on Lafayette, so it was exciting to actually know something about what was being told to us! Here are some of the sights we saw...
Of course when we saw the "stocks" we couldn't resist trying them out.....

Even though we are studying history chronologically and are still in Ancient Greece and Rome, we take small side tracks into American History. There is soooo much literature and so many fun events for kids their age that it would be a mistake to postpone it all until high school. We will be doing a Revolutionary War unit study this fall and attend some re-enactments. We are looking forward to learning more about how God protected and guided our America.
Daniel purchased a book at the gift shop that he has read and re-read. It tells all about the Revolutionary War soldier and has detailed illustrations on every page. We also picked up some "pieces of eight" and Alex bought a sword. Stay tuned for our next historic adventure!

Ok, you're going to have to tell me what planning a 'mystery jury' involves! :) Lynn

That looks like so much fun! Thanks for commenting on my Creation Museum post. I always like "meeting" other homeschoolers, too! Camden looks like an interesting place - I'll have to put that on my list of places to visit.

Lynn,
One of the little books they are reading in their Mystery club has several court scenarios. They are going to re-stage one of them for us to figure out. I suppose we will be the jury and they will be the judge, plaintiff, defendant and lawyer.
Val,
We miss you guys too! We need to get together before the girls go back to school. We are inviting your family to Amelia's crowning on the 28th, but we just got the invitations! I hope you can come. The pictures are the ones taken for our groups yearbook. We ordered one for Alex, but they haven't sent it yet.
Love you both, Hilda
Oh! Kayla had her baby today! 6lbs 15oz, 20in and beautiful. Momma did great!
