Beatrix, Butterscotch and Box Turtles....

We celebrated our completion of the Tales of Beatrix Potter with a wonderful tea time. Daniel shared his favorite tea, Mandarin Orange Spice. We had made a batch of Oatmeal Butterscotch Squares....
yummy! (Take the oatmeal raisin recipe from the bottom of the Quaker Oatmeal lid and substitute butterscotch morsels for the raisins)
Now we will watch 'Miss Potter' together one cozy afternoon next week. I watched the movie already with Amelia one evening, I couldn't wait! She was ready to draw bunnies right away and I tried to figure out how we could again try having a bunny for a pet! Apparently, as a small child Beatrix Potter had ample opportunity to draw animals from real life... something I want my kids to be able to do also.

Friday we had a special chance to do just that.... Maggie's new neighbor found an Eastern Carolina Box Turtle crawling through her yard and shared it with us.... So, as I read the first two chapters of 'Voyage of the Dawn Treader' (our current read aloud) the children observed and sketched Willy the Turtle. Why was he named Willy? Because Maggie said "He is willy, willy slow!" We have posted our turtle sketching photos on our Nature Journal...

Another activity, enjoyed by the girls while I read aloud is doll dressing and grooming. They have been really enjoying their 18 inch dolls. Amelia is planning to cut out a pattern for a new doll dress tonight... wish us luck!

Glad you guys finished it. I've been reading the same thing to Kinsey and she seems to really enjoy it. Her vocabulary is growing daily, most likely from being read to so much..... or that she's just a typical female, and loves to talk! :) I know what you mean about Miss Potter. It made me want to get out a sketch book and draw something too! Love, Lynn

Loved the picture. I have a daughter and I remember when she loved grooming and dressing dolls. This young lady looks really content. Good Luck!

I love Beatrix Potter! Have you read the mysteries (recent fiction) by Susan Albert? Great stuff. Looks like you are having a good time!
