Fort Branch 2009
This is a thirty-two pounder ship gun. It is pointed towards the river for defense against enemy ship guns. This is not capable of being fired, it is there for display only.
Here is a view of the muzzle pointed toward the river.
This is a replica of the walled fort that stood during the Battle of Fort Branch. There are three gun ports. To find out more about the Battle of Fort Branch, go here.
Some of the beautiful scenery at Rainbow Banks...
*Note from the teacher: Alex and I stayed home from this event and went to the town Veteran's Day Celebrations. Our neighbor, a WWII and Korean War veteran, was Grand Marshal.. a high honor. Daniel is the narrator for this post. He is during further writing on the history of Fort Branch for our school paper. The photographers that weekend did not manage to take a single photo of anyone 'dressed out' in period clothing. umm. I suppose we must use our imaginations...
